Flyer for "Raffle," George Herms's 1965 "Tap City Circus"

Title

Flyer for "Raffle," George Herms's 1965 "Tap City Circus"

Description

Beginning in 1965, whenever he was short on funds (or, “tapped out”), George Herms held Tap City Circuses at his home in Topanga Canyon, which were sort of like raffles, with artworks as prizes. The event recurred about every 18 months, and each one had a special name. He called it “the highest example of using life’s pitfalls as a springboard.”

The 1965 event was called "Raffle." A hand-printed flyer spells the word, "Love," in the corners, and gives the address as 2215 N. Topanga Canyon Blvd.
